Parade & Veterans
Lest we forget VE & VJ Days and the serving British Armed Forces

With the sense of remembrance, we need to be sure that The Lee Victory Festival respects the sacrifices of those who fought during WWII so enabling us of today to be able to celebrate the freedom we have.

The Lee Victory Festival  parade will start from Daedalus on Saturday 23rd September 2023 at 10.00 - Be ready and get your vantage point from 09.00am!

Colonel Charles Ackroyd TD RD DL, Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire will be in attendance to take the salute from HMS Collingwood Guard and HMS Sultan platoon; they will be part of a marching parade of over 500 strong, including cadet forces, uniformed groups & associations - WWII veterans and Veteran Associations and re-enactors with their vintage vehicles, therefore its going to be an amazing sight for Lee on the Solent.

The route will be just over a mile long & will proceed along Richmond Road, Monsterrat Road, High Street, Cambridge Road, Marine Parade back into Richmond Road meaning there’s plenty of space, so make sure you get your vantage point to watch the parade.  This is a free element of the whole event weekend.

The pinnacle element of this parade will see the parade being halted for a planned aircraft display with 4 aircraft as the historic and only air worthiness Swordfish from the Navy Wings will be starting the display at 10.45am. Having a significant association with the old HMS Daedalus airfield where the Swordfish was stationed and with the Fleet Air Arm memorial being located on the Lee on the Solent seafront, having the Swordfish as part of the our event will be truly memorable; it will also be part of our static aircraft display on the Saturday at the airfield..

The other aircraft taking part in the display will be a Messerschmitt 108, a Hurricane and Spitfire RR232, City of Exeter being provided through Spitfires.com and support by Neil Parkinson their chief pilot. The aircraft will be gracing the skies creating a Battle of Britain theme saving the WWII gunboat & launches on the Solent from the enemy.

To support the event the organisers can confirm that there will be a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast on both Saturday and Sunday over the event being held on the airfield.

To enable the parade to take place, there will be an approved road closure scheme in operation, which will be managed by Sunbelt Traffic Management. Full road closure & car park details will be released in due course.

With The Lee Victory Festival, it’s our vision to bring together those veterans, men & women of military & civilian background from 1945 who experienced VE Day first hand and give them the platform to share those experiences with the younger generations of Lee on the Solent; meaning their memories can be captured, shared and celebrated.

To help us with the numbers of who are wanting to march we are asking those to pre-register and this can be done here

If you are unable to register but still would like to march then please arrive at the old HMS Daedalus Wardroom Carpark accessed through Nottingham Place, Lee on the Solent before 09.30 the latest as the parade steps of at 10.00.   To see the Parade route and where to assemble on the map below to download the information.
